Manual Handling Training [Inanimate Loads]

In order to adhere to present Health & Safety Legislation, personnel engaged in manual handling must be afforded information relating to the dangers associated with unsafe manual handling practices.  The legislation also requires that personnel be provided with training in safe manual handling techniques.

Manual Handling Training is a 3½ hour course and may be delivered onsite for up to 10 attendees per trainer.

Objectives:

On completion of this course participants will:

  • Be aware of the risks associated with unsafe manual handling practices
  • Have the knowledge to carry out risk assessments of their manual handling tasks
  • Know the principles of lifting and how to apply them to a range of manual handling tasks.

Course Content:

  • Legislation
  • Structure of the spine
  • How the spine may be injured
  • The importance of being fit for work
  • Ergonomics & Risk Assessment
  • Principles of lifting
  • Practical Session include: Lifting to and from floor level, to and from a height, bench to bench, pushing & pulling [practical session tailored to suit client needs]

As training is delivered in English, participants must have a good command of the English language.  Participants may, by agreement with GSTC and through prior notice, bring a qualified interpreter.

Who should attend?

All staff engaged in the movement of loads during their work

Certification:

Each attendee will receive a Certificate of Attendance on successful completion of the course.
