Moving and Handling Training [Animate Loads]
In accordance with the Health & Safety Legislation personnel involved in the moving and handling of people must receive information about the risks associated with unsafe moving and handling practices. To achieve this goal personnel must be provided with training in safe moving and handling practices and associated equipment. The one day course of 8 persons per instructor
Objectives
On completion of this course attendees will:
Have the knowledge to risk assess moving and handling tasks prior to carrying them out
Know the moving and handling principles and how to apply them to the various tasks
Be competent in hoist usage and other handling aids such as sliding sheets
Course Content:
- Legislation
- Structure of the spine
- How the spine may be injured
- The importance of being fit for work
- Ergonomics & Risk Assessment
- Principles of lifting
Practical Session includes:
- Lifting inanimate loads from floor to bench to floor; lifting articles onto a height and pushing & pulling techniques
- Moving and handling of people in a bed; onto and off a bed; walking with a person and addressing a person who has fallen
- Hoist usage and other moving and handling equipment
- As training is delivered in English, participants must have a good command of the English language. Participants may, by agreement with GSTC and through prior notice, bring a qualified interpreter.
Who should attend?
- All staff engaged in the moving and handling of people during their work
Certification:
- Each attendee will receive a Certificate of Attendance on successful completion of the course.
